The history of Mamanda...

In ancient times the world of Ivetless was inhabited by humans, elves, dwarves, goblins and some monsters and animals. There were no orcs, giants or ogres. At that time the humans and dwarves built a great empire on the island known today as Orcfast, the capital was Mamanda, a city renowned throughout the world for its beauty and wealth. However during the war a terrible leader of evil known as the Necromancer, rose to power in Morpern (the main continent). There was a terrible war fought there between the peoples of Morpern and the armies of the Necromancer. His armies were at first mainly humans, but as these dwindled he began to recruit from the underdark, and some say from other places.

Still his forces could not vanquish the armies of men, dwarves and elves and at a great battle near the elven stronghold of Boskili he was defeated even though he used a devastating magical weapon. The lands there are to this day broken and twisted and known as the Barren Wastes. He fled to Orcfast, he made contact with the humanoids who were then raging through the Phlo and he imported a huge army of orcs, ogres and giants. The war then continued on Orcfast. The Necromancer has long ago disappeared taking his terrible weapon with him, he was chased away by an army from Fiblex that according to legend was led by a golden dragon. This army's commander was the first Sensechal of Mamanda. The Necromancer was gone but the humanoids thrived in Orcfast, stronger they grew and bolder until they had driven out the dwarves from the mountains and were enslaving the hapless goblins that had always lived there.

The only refuge from them was in Mamanda, and a great king of the goblins, Jekkak brought his people to the city and swore to defend it if they would be allowed live there. The city has three walls, the outer wall encircles all of the lowland plain and is huge and fortified. This wall is patrolled by the humans who farm and live on the plain. The main wall encircles all of the city itself it is thick and strong and in buildings that are built against the inside of it live the goblins, they are not allowed to live anywhere else and their homes have added to the strength of the walls. These goblins are the defenders of the city wall. The fortress and palace are protected by high walls also and under the city the last of the dwarves work the rich ore deposits that Mamanda is famous for. The dwarves are the guardians of the palace walls. Inside the stronghold the Seneschal's bodyguard of fierce Mehani brought all the way from far Jellah are the last line of defence.

And so it is that goblins, dwarves and humans live in harmony in Mamanda, and the last time the orcs and their allies breached the outer wall (about thirty years ago) their army attacked the main gate of the city and the goblin swarmed over the walls and through the gate massacring the orcs and ogres almost to the last one. Even the dwarves were impressed by the ferocity of Mamanda's goblin guards!
